J’ai fait un effort dans le contemporain

“The heart of this project is to overturn the usual codes of theatre. Whether in the narrative arc or the scenic proposition, but above all in the way we work together, with this desire to leave the strongest part of the message centred on the usual invisible elements of theatre: the stage directions (in this case Gibiers du temps, by Didier Georges Gabily), the technique and the technicians. We spent more time in welding, cutting and connecting all the components needed to make the machines, than we did rehearsing in the theatre. In this sense, we had to let go of the usual creative codes, and concentrate on the engineering part. It took us two years to finalise our first machine: the Waterless Rain Machine. Then came the feather-dropping machine, the ceiling-dropping dust machine, and the others … The process was really great, spending a week welding, and then plugging in the machines and seeing them come to life. We’ve created a show where everyone has the same importance, where artistic ideas, no matter how crazy, can resonate, we’ve put technology back at the heart of what we want to do, we’ve created our world, and we’re infinitely happy.”Billy Demiguel, Student Master Expanded Theater

«Eine Arbeit, die sich im Raum entwickelt auf eine Zeitungsseite zu kodieren und darauf hoffen, dass sie in der Vorstellung einer Leserin wieder eine räumliche Dimension bekommt, ist kein einfaches Unterfangen. Man muss es gesehen haben … was auch nicht genügt, denn Riechen, Schmecken, Hören ist Teil des Spiels. Und die Rahmenbedingungen. Rahmenbedingungen? Ein Wort mit zwei Einschränkungen: Rahmen. Bedingungen. Der Rahmen? Entstanden ist die Arbeit im Master Expanded Theatre, der genau das zum Ziel hat: den Rahmen dessen, was wir uns unter Theater vorstellen, immer wieder zu sprengen. Unbekanntes Terrain wird betreten und das Publikum geht nicht mehr ins Theater, sondern nimmt an Expeditionen teil … Die Bedingungen? Geld gibt’s wenig.
